Tule is exactly 2 species with 1 name! If you add var. occidentalis, you get the exact tule.


Tule is a sedge with pale, radially symmetrical flowers, and a stem as large as 3 meters tall! It has a hard tubular or triangle stem. The blossoms are cherry-like, too!

Tule grows near most water forms [rivers and lakes]. It especially lives near the Sacramento, Riparian areas, and tribal lands.

This plant is edible like catail, so much it is very edible. The rhizomes can be pounded into flour. Yet there are WAY more edible parts.
​
As for medicine, this plant is almost as big on that than edibility. The pith is haemostatic with a poultice nearby. It cures poison oak, too.
​
This plant is used in a LOT of ways other than food and medicine. It is as cloth, boat, spear, and decoration, too. As decor it has more than 1000 uses.

This tule blooms in May to August. It acts as a filter. It belongs in the family Cyperaceae. Scirpus and Schoenoplectus are the two genuses that bulrushes live. It comes from a biblical story. It provides a nest cover for fish such as bass and bluegill. A similar type is the Californian tule. Luiseno used tule for burns and wounds.
